Danielle Dutombe and her husband Jürgen Kramer have established their German private theater in Germany and the Netherlands before. So why not Hungary next?

The German couple is founding a German language theater in Budapest – the first performances will be hold at the Bethlen Square Theater in the middle of this month. For Dutombe, it won’t be the first time to establish a theatre in the Hungarian capital; she’d lived in Hungary for 10 years and speaks Hungarian. Her mother, Irén Jeney graduated from the Royal Hungarian Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. She met her husband, Jürgen in the Benelux with whom they spent more and more time in Hungary.

They started to think about how to start in Budapest and decided to do something they’ve done before many times: to open a theatre. It’s called Neue Deutsche Buhne (New German Theater). The first performances come from the Gottingen Hof Theater; on April 14, German author Martin Walser’s drama, Die Zimmerschlacht (Massacre in the Room). “The play is about what can happen when a couple who had long lived together, suddenly they start being honest with each other.”- said Kramer. For those who prefer comedy, on 19 April, Dutombe’s Boxenludere will be presented, also satirizing the pitfalls of relationships.
