“Feel the retro” in Hungary
Posted by Mia Balogh · May 19, 2014

Do you like events with some retro feeling? And will you have some time to spend in Hungary this summer? Then don’t miss cruising on the Danube and Deja Vu festival in Szeged.

Nowadays, retro and vintage are quite fashionable concepts. If you like things and events with some retro feeling, and you would like to feel it this summer in Hungary, as well, then you will have several possibilities to do so. Try cruising on the Danube or visit Deja Vu festival in Szeged. You won’t regret it.

Cruising on the Danube

If you arrive to Hungary, you will probably want to spend some time in Budapest, visiting all the monuments you might have read about earlier. But you also have the possibility to see the riverside monuments of our beautiful capital – for example the Parliament or the Buda Castle – from the river Danube, while enjoying a nice cruise on a ship.

You can do this by adding a nice meal to your cruise – for example on the ships called Rákóczi or Budapest. These ships depart from Vigado Square Ship Station, and at first, they head north on the river. They give you time and possibility to enjoy the panorama, then they turn south at Margitsziget. After heading south on the Buda-side of the river, they turn back again at the area between Petőfi bridge and Rákóczi bridge, and return to Vigado Square.

On board, you can experience the retro feeling of these ships – the furniture and the program was very likely to the actual one in the nineties, which is quite nostalgic and nice. In addition to that, you can enjoy the beautiful panorama of Budapest and buffet meal including starters, soups, salads, main dishes and desserts. Hungarian meals like gulash and vegetarian dishes can also be found in the buffet. The retro feeling of the cruise is completed by the nice live music, presented by Beatangok and every Saturday by Late Night Groove Band.

You can buy tickets online at www.mahartpassnave.hu or personally at the Vigado Square Ship Station, Batthyány Square Ship Station and at the International Port. For opening hours and discounts, check out the webpage mentioned above.
