Musical Budapest is here: free concerts will be held at the city's most wonderful outdoor locations
Posted by Budnews · Jun 20, 2019

600 concerts await from classic melodies to jazz and rock at 16 locations.

One of our favorite summer events, Zenélő Budapest (Musical Budapest) is here again. We can hear and watch talented musicians playing around the city for the fifth time completely free of charge.

The 5th Musical Budapest takes place between 1 June and 18 August at 16 iconic locations of the city and offers 600 free, open-air concerts. These events create a unique atmosphere with the help of both classical and pop music at locations loved by both the city dwellers and tourists, such as Vajdahunyad Castle, Saint Stephen’s Basilica, Hungarian National Gallery, Kunsthalle and the Castle Garden Bazaar.

This year, Musical Budapest features new locations and new musical themes. “Coffee house feeling” will be in the focus, which always played an important role in the cultural life of the city: the “nostalgic Pest nights” will be evoked in several locations. Millenáris Park, the garden of the Hungarian National Museum and the stage of Castle Garden Bazaar will offer several programs for children and youngsters.

The performers are the musicians of Budapest's excellent orchestras - the National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Danube Symphony Orchestra, the Concerto Budapest – and excellent folk musicians, world-class jazz formations and soloists, excellent vocal choruses, and talents of new generations.

During this almost three months we can hear Transylvanian folk music (in the castle of Vajdahunyad), Gypsy music (Central Market Hall), guitarists on Savoyai terrace of the Buda Castle, performance of the students of the University of Fine Arts also can be seen, there will be choir festival at Szentháromság Square and young talents also will perform on the stages. In addition, many children programs will take place, so Musical Budapest is perfect for the whole family.
