For the 28th time this year, Buda Castle District will be filled with the best pieces and masters of folk art who will most certainly amaze visitors with their outstanding skills and spectacular creations.
Festival of Folk Arts is a much-loved event, the most significant forum for Hungarian folk culture, organized on a yearly basis. It features the most renowned Hungarian craftsmen, artists from various regions of the country who introduce their skills and knowledge inherited from their ancestors, handed down from many generations.

This year, the festival welcomes visitors for 5 days, lasts from 16 to 20August which makes the event even more special; it is connected to the festivities of St. Stephen's Day, a national holiday on 20 August when Hungary celebrates its first king St. Stephen and the foundation of the state. Therefore, on the last day of the festival, visitors can not only enjoy Hungarian folk culture but the famous great fireworks, too.
Every year, the festival focuses on a particular theme, this summer, it’s metal crafts, there will be an entire exhibition and workshops on this topic in the Lion’s Yard (Oroszlános Udvar). Visitors can not only learn more about the profession but watch smiths, cutlers, armourers, goldsmiths, braziers, enamels, tinkers in action, too. Guests will have the chance to see the beating out of iron, damascening, the creation of medals and, besides exhibitions, professional presentations and screenings will make the festival even more enjoyable.

In addition, each year, the event welcomes a special guest, invites another culture to the festival. This time, it’s Turkey, the most talented craftsmen of which have already been preparing to blow people’s minds with their jewelry, carpets and fascinating textiles. And the organizers make sure that, besides the regular events, artisan gastronomy, photo exhibitions and several other programs will amuse the lucky visitors.
