The 11th Budapest Summer Festival awaits the season with the richest program ever and introduces an Early Bird promotion campaign for the first time in the whole cultural sphere.
We can choose from dozens of exciting cultural programs on the outdoor stages this year. The Budapest Summer Festival lasts for 3 months and has 5 locations as Margaret Island Open Air Theatre, Városmajori Open Air Theatre, Margaret Island Water Tower, St. Margaret monastery ruins and an Interactive Fairytale-stage.
Faithfully to the "More than theater, experience!" slogan the popular, summer theaters of Budapest offer more than a hundred programs in a huge variety of genres, spiced with specific activities and complex services that make these events complete. Theatrical performances, concerts, exhibitions, free family activities, children's theater, Jazzy Tower concerts, Theatre Festival, water tower lookout, theater boat service, scheduled cruise ships, hotel package deals and a variety of other novelties also await visitors from June to the end of August at the country's most colorful cultural festival.

If we're in Budapest in the summer, we make it better to plan the program already: now, under the Early Bird campaign five productions are announced to the Margaret Island Open Air Theatre, but it will be worthwhile to pay attention to the communication channels of the theaters, because the offer is constantly expanding. Which is for sure: on the Margaret Island the season opens with a concert entitled “Liszt and Dante”: the National Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Zoltán Kocsis. This year’s monumental opera premiere is “Queen of Sheba” by Károly Goldmark on July 3rd and 5th: the joint production with the Hungarian State Opera is directed by Csaba Káel.
On Carl Orff's 120th birthday, July 10th the Szeged Contemporary Ballet and the Dohnányi Orchestra special joint production will be on stage: the ”Catulli Carmina and the Carmina Burana” ballet with orchestral accompaniment. With “Vive la France!” symphonic film music-concert we commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Edith Piaf – with a special guest star in the show. Puccini's “Tosca” will be staged on August 7 and 9 with international star singers: in the role play Béatrice Uria-Monzon French mezzo-soprano and the young Chilean tenor Giancarlo Monsalve as Cavaradossi. This year's musical premiere will be “Jesus Christ Superstar”, and a brand new night circus-theater revue is planned, which evokes the world of the French Moulin Rouge. On August 22 the new band of the Gipsy Kings founder arrives: Chico & The Gypsies.
