On 22 March you’ll have the chance to learn about Irish traditions. One of the most important Irish holiday, St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated in Budapest as well, with a parade on Szabadság Square and a party at INSTANT. Dress up green and be Irish for a day!

The Feast of Saint Patrick (Lá Fhéile Pádraig in Irish) is a religious and cultural celebration held on 17 March in Ireland. It’s when the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick died. It was officially made a Christian holiday in the early 17th century and commemorates St. Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in the country, at the same time, it also celebrates the cultural heritage of the Irish in general. On this day, there are parades, festivals, where people traditionally wear green attire or shamrocks.

As of 2011, this popular Irish holiday is celebrated in Budapest, too, this year, it’ll be on 22 March. If you want to experience the Irish mentality and way of having fun, the only thing you have to do is wear green and come to Szabadság Square at 2 pm, when the parade starts. There’ll also be a fun party at INSTANT Club, several bands will entertain the audience, playing accoustic and electric instruments. You can bring your entire family, too; there will be a children’s playroom at the club, awaiting the young ones with toys and games and creative activities.
