10 reasons why we are super excited about Sziget festival
Posted by Budnews · Jul 31, 2017

You can expect amazing programs this year. And we’re not only talking about the concerts.

As a foreigner, you probably have heard about the Sziget Festival sooner than the beautiful parliament or the goulash soup. But this didn’t stop us from gathering the reasons why this place is so cool. We hardly can wait 9 August because:

1. Pink. Obviously. The main concert of the week is something no one would miss.

2. Workshops. If you manage to get sober for a half day, check out the workshops of that day. This year, we can gain insights into the myths of fusion belly dancing and firefighting – among many others.

3. The point of thematic parties - what a surprise - is the thousands of pieces of the same thing that the audience can throw, applaud, or wave with. This year, there will be pompom party, ball party, color party... so get ready!

4. Because we can be a child again. In addition to the concerts, Sziget is like a huge playhouse: everything is possible, and the inhibition is fortunately stayed out of the entrance door.

5. Various yoga and meditation sessions, of which this year's favorite is Sleeping Beauty Project's sleeping installation, which allows the festivalists to participate in a guided sleeping.

6. Great conversations. And now we are not talking about the ones next to a bottle of wine, but the TedX tent, where we can get acquainted with the concept of unlearning, minimalism and the film's future.

7. The Before I die wall. Write your dreams / plans / desires / secrets on this huge wall and maybe they become true. It’s more liberating feeling than you might think.

8. Hungaricum village. Every year Hungaricum Village has a theme and because Sziget celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, the venue will focus on “birthdays”. Szitizens can discover a superb exhibition about the history of the Open Air Folk Museum in Szentendre (Skanzen) and learn about Hungarian traditions and customs when it comes to birth and anniversaries and also taste the Hungarian folk dance with the help of the “Táncház” method, which has been inscribed on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.

9. Sziget beach. Bathing in the Danube is prohibited – except for a week in the Island of Freedom. You can relax in the shade of colorful, giant textile decorations, on soft carpets and snake cushions to relieve the fatigue of the previous night.

10. Artzone, where you can create festival accessories from recycled PVC foil and many other materials, you can plant a plant or try out what you can do with a sour cream box, a straw and a jar rubber if the task is to create a mini air conditioner.

So do not forget: 9-16 August, Sziget Festival!
