Diner en Blanc in Budapest for the third time
Posted by Mia Balogh · Aug 31, 2018

One of the most mysterious dinner events in the world returns to our capital again.

The world’s most elegant and most mysterious picnic, Diner en Blanc will be organized in Budapest again, for the third time on 1 September. The location will be a secret until the last couple of minutes but one thing is for sure: the gathering will be held at a beautiful place. The first two suppers were hosted at spots as the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Vigadó tér on the Pest riverfront.

Diner en Blanc started as a private event 30 years ago, organised by Frenchman François Pasquier. Now it is a global attraction, involving 80 cities and more than 130,000 visitors worldwide.

There is only a small problem with the event: it’s almost impossible get in. The system works by invitation and if you don’t have any friends in the Diner en Blanc community, your only hope is the waiting list of… well, thousands of people.

If you do manage to get in, the principles are the same from the beginnings: you, the guest have to dress in white and bring your food, your own white table for two and two chairs and tableware to the venue. Everyone can bring a plus one. If your registration had been confirmed, you have to be there, even if the weather turns bad. Exciting, isn’t it? ;)
