Two Hungarian places among the world’s best wine restaurants

Fiaker and Felix Kitchen and Bar won the Award of Excellence for the first time.

Wine Spectator wine magazine announced this year’s Award of Excellence and 2020 became a fantastic year to us, Hungarians. We won not only one, but two awards: Fiaker and Felix Kitchen and Bar both got the Award of Excellence.

The prestigious wine magazine, which dates back several decades, has been compiling its international list of the world's most recommended wine restaurants since 1981. The most serious wine offer is a condition for entry, and Fiaker at Madách Square has become worthy of international recommendation with a wide selection, vintage depths and wines from the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The magazine said, Felix Kitchen & Bar has become one of the most exciting places with its wine list of more than three hundred items. The restaurant opened its doors in the former Várkert Kiosk building just over a year ago, but with its wine concept it has already come into the spotlight of the international trade press. It is a rarity in Hungary to have hundreds of wines and champagnes in one place on the drink menu.

Máté Horváth, sommelier of Felix Kitchen & Bar highlighted to welovebudapest.hu that the award is not only a positive feedback that the dreamed concept is moving in the right direction, but he also sees the innovation recognized. The wine bar restaurant did not place itself in the fine dining category and it’s not only wine bar, rather complementing the wine experience with a narrower but quality bistro food offer. The wine offer is based on the Austrian wines marketed in KisBécs for many years, and this selection has been developed with the territories of the Monarchy, among which Hungarian items received a similar emphasis. In addition, wines from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Transylvania, Slovakia and northern Italy can be tasted on a regular basis.

With this recognition, Felix Kitchen & Bar and Fiaker Bistro & Wine Bar are among the best restaurants in the world. Congratulations to both places!
