Celebrity chef Lázár Kovács achieved great results at the Italian competition.
Hungarian team awarded at the Pizza World Championship
Between the 5th and 7th of April, Italian Parma saw the best of the best of pizzamakers converge on the city to compete for thisyear’s Pizza World Championship. About 700 contestantsarrived from 36 countries, among them the Hungarian team, ledby the renowned Hungarian chef Lázár Kovács. While the main event is usually a lock for the locals, Lázár and his pizzamakingpartner László Damu achieved quite a feat by finishing in the7th place, thereby becoming the best foreign team.
The Pizza World Championship hs many categories – classic, deep dish, pizza on a baker’s shovel and also a gluten-free category. The Hungarian team participated in each of these, claiming 7th place in the classic category with their vegan dishcalled the Green Cheese pizza.
The delicacy combined grilled vegetables and garden herbs, complete with microgreens, roasted pistachios and walnut-flavored green pesto, as well as the Hungarian specialtyPálpusztai cheese, yellow tomatoes, green pea caviasr and porcini mushrooms, all coming from ecological farms. The composition was drizzled with sesame oil as well as oastedsesame seeds.
The judges not only appreciated the flavors but the design of thepizza as well, resulting in the Hungarian team claimming theBest Art Design award of the competition as well.
Following the championship, Kovács and his team visited thenearby Piaggio factory as well, where they picked up a speciallymade Piaggio truck with a built-in pizza-oven inside. They willuse the special vehicle to bring their award-winning dish toHungary so locals here can taste the win as well.
