Would you have guessed that the first tea shop in Hungary opened only in 1995? The small shop, which played a key role in bringing tea into fashion 19 years ago, can be found in Katona József street, in immediate vicinity of Westend. The First Teahouse of Pest is a place that’s fun to enter – the tiny little shop always has a good atmosphere, practically you can get everything that you need for tea, and besides expert service, good advices can be obtained.

When the store opened, it offered only 15 kinds of tea. By now, all kinds of tea from all over the world can be found there. In addition to the traditional black and green teas, some flavoured, rooibush, white and yellow tea types, fruit infusions and herbal mixtures are also available. The shelves are lined up by tea sets, designed by Hungarian ceramists, metal and wood storage boxes, kitchen accessories, and beyond the counter, there’s a huge variety of teas to choose from –you can also taste them if you want to.

There are plenty of tea specialties to choose from, and you can always be sure, what you get is completely healthy – none of the products purchased here contain artificial ingredients. In addition to teas, honey from Hungarian producers, various jams, chocolates and other goodies are available, and if you’d get shocked by overabundance, you can count on immediate help by experts. Those who work here have a heart and soul for tea, and they are happy to give advice on how to prepare these special teas. There is always something new – in the winter season many Christmas tea mixtures are available, while iced tea is awaiting the guests in summertime.

“Drink a cup of tea and spill your worries” – goes the Russian saying. This approach fits the Teahouse well – it is guaranteed, that those who enter, leave in a better mood. The store is open Monday to Friday from 10 to 18, and from 10 to 14 on Saturdays. For Hungarian speakers, taking a tour on the store’s web-site is a great idea – some interesting facts about tea can be read there in addition to the current offers.
