Miksa Cafe

Good food is good mood – in Miksa Cafe, you will see and feel, how true this saying can be. And obviously, this will be one of the first quotes you will see by entering the place.

There is a friendly eatery called Miksa Cafe in the 5th district in Budapest. When we first heard the name, we thought that it might be the name of the owner, because Miksa is a Hungarian name for men. But a little bit later, we saw that it is situated in the Falk Miksa Street, so the name choice wasn’t a question anymore.

We also knew that Miksa Cafe is a pioneer for the Hungarian eco-friendly eateries, which means that values like protection of the environment, selective waste disposal, and buying quality food products from local farmers are as important for them as the healthy menu.

The eatery, opened last year near one of the most beautiful Hungarian buildings, the Parliament, is really not so huge, but is really lovely and amicable, with a ground floor and an upper floor. You will easily find the counter, where you can choose for example a sandwich, a home-made syrup, or the daily eco lunch menu, which costs 1250 HUF.

The lunch menu here always includes a soup and a main dish, such as cream of cheese soup with toasted walnuts, cold yoghurt soup with fruits, zucchini soup with coconut milk, vegetable pasta casserole, penne arabiata, chicken breast with cream and mushroom sauce and penne, or meat and rice.

If you follow a special diet, you will be happy to see, that the ingredients are clearly marked and they use the following codes to make your food choice easier: GF = gluten-free, LF= lactose-free, SF = sugar-free, V = vegetarian, VN = vegan, P = paleo.

The sandwiches here seem a little bit expensive for the first sight, but you won’t feel like that after knowing how special and exciting these treats are. The buns baked at the eatery contain for example buffalo sausage, mangalica pork meat or salami of Hungarian Grey cattle. So these are absolutely worth their prices between 600-800 HUF.

We definitely like the place, and plan to return with our families, as well, because this spot is baby and dog friendly eatery. What else would you require?

Our tip for dessert

If you visit the place, you should definitely try their chocolate mousse. It is made with rum, so if you don’t drink alcohol, choose something else – for example our other favourite sweet treat, the cottage-cheese trifle with blackberry with honey or with erythritol. You can eat it inside the cafe, or on the terrace, or you can ask for takeaway, as well.
