Hot water, sauna, steam bath – let us give you a short list of our favourite baths in Budapest, the right spots to warm up during the cold winter days!
Széchenyi Baths
Elegance, 21 pools, gentlemen playing chess, Szecska party-series… there are so many things we could tell you about Széchenyi Baths but let’s stay at some basic information. There are some medical bath pools inside, open-air pools outside, and the wellness facilities are also popular. What about a massage or a good fish pedicure? If you need some alcohol to relax, you should try the Beer Spa – yes, having a bath in natural beer ingredients is healthy and relaxing. Of course you can have here some draft beer, too.
Baths of Veli Bej
One of our biggest favourites among Budapest’s baths is Veli Bej, this is a real hidden gem in the 2nd district. It was built during the Turkish era, so it’s the oldest and biggest Turkish bath in Budapest. But the bath is quite modern, too, because it’s big refurbishment finished in 2011. Since then, guests can use the five Turkish pools with different water temperatures, and the new wellness department with a jacuzzi, two steam chambers, Finnish and infra saunas, massage showers, Jacuzzia Kneipp walk pool, swimming pool, and various massages.
Gellért Baths
You might remember that recently, BBC chose this Hungarian bath among the most beautiful Art Deco baths in the world, and we really don’t want to argue with them about it. Gellért is really amazing! Their steam bath and salt chamber will be good for your health wintertime, while the bath’s splendid decoration will art-loving heart beat faster. Our tip: the beautifully decorated pool will invite you for some private bathing, don’t resist. ;)
Rudas Thermal Baths
Rudas was built in the Turkish era, more than 450 years ago and was refurbished in 2014 – since then, the bath offers an absolutely state-of-the-art wellness facility, as well. So if you have tried all the thermal pools (there are three of these) and the panorama pool on the rooftop terrace (unforgettable!), you can enjoy the sauna world, the steam- or salt chambers and even a Turkish-Hungarian restaurant with fusion cuisine!
