Budapest Transport Center adjust the timetable to the travel habits.
The nightlife of Budapest - and all big cities - is extremely lively on Friday and Saturday night. We could say it’s obvious, but until now, the public transport of Budapest did not adjust to this trend. Although tram 6 operates all night long, and we have plenty of night buses, but the metro lines closed extremely early: at about 11.30 in the evening. This is one of the earliest closing in Europe, and almost all other capitals have extended operation on Friday and Saturday. But the change is here: from December 1, metro line M2 and M4 operates one hour longer, until about 00.30 to meet the needs of passengers. It’s an early closing even so, but still.
Spokesman of Budapest Transport System said: Budapest has increasingly busy night life, and the number of tourists visiting the capital is rising in recent years, so more and more people want to use late-night public transport and night buses. Experience has shown that night service utilization is particularly high on Fridays and Saturdays when many people travel around the city after midnight. According to their new schedule, metros will depart in every 10 minutes at night. This new possibility does not affect any other routes, so all the existing night options still remain.
