One of the world’s most prestigious film festivals, the Cannes Film Festival started last Wednesday for the 67th time. Three Hungarian titles have debuted on the festival this weekend.
1800 feature films entered the festival and only 18 have been chosen to compete for the Palm d’Or award. Another 20 feature films had the opportunity to take part in the so-called Un certain regardsection, among them a Hungarian one. Kornél Mundroczo’s new title, White God, is his 6th film. It tells a sentimental story of a 13-year old girl, Lilly and her dog, and it just had its world premiere on Saturday at Cannes Film Festival. „It’s no secret that after the films I’ve made thus far, I am turning towards genre experiments. The first of these is White God, inspired mostly by preposterous and increasingly rancorous present-day social relations.” – said the director. Mundroczo’s title is not the only one at this year’s Cannes Festival.

Petra Szőcs’s film, The Execution entered the festival in the short film category. The film tells a story about a brother and a sister who again and again perform the execution of the Ceausescu couple. Young director’s, György Mór Kárpáti’s title, Province is about a driver got its place in Cinefondation, the category which is dedicated to student films.
We are very proud of our directors and their talented staff, we keep our fingers crossed and our readers updated about the results.
