3+1 super programs for New Year’s Eve in Budapest
Posted by Mia Balogh · Dec 25, 2018

If welcome 2019 in Budapest, let us recommend you some of the best programs in the city for an unforgettable New Year’s Eve.

1, “Ügetőszilveszter”

That means New Year’s Eve at Kincsem Park, at the ‘Ügető’, well-known trotting racetrack, where not only horse races ensure a nice afternoon program for you, you friends and family, but also some other interesting events. The biggest outdoor New Year’s program (which is also the last sport event of the year) in the city is waiting for you between 1PM and 9 PM on 31 December. Tickets are available for 1800 HUF for adults, and everyone under 18 gets in for free. Sounds good, right? ;)

2, Cruising on the Danube

One of the most memorable New Years program is to enjoy a river cruise and to have a lunch, cocktail or a glass of wine, right? Well, you can have it all on 31 December from 2 PM. If you fancy the cocktails, tickets are available for 7400 HUF/person, for wine lovers the program costs 9400 HUF/person, and for those who prefer the lunch option, tickets are available for 11 800 HUF/person. Of course you can decide to enjoy the 1.5 hours of the boat trip without eating and drinking anything, then your ticket only costs 3500 HUF (3000 HUF if you are a student). Which option would you choose? ;)

3, Welcome 2019 on the streets

Don’t worry, you won’t be the only person welcoming 2019 on the streets. In Budapest, there are several spots where you’ll definitely find some company to say ‘happy new year’ together at midnight: Vörösmarty Square, Nyugati Square, Oktogon and the Party district (Gozsdu Court and all around that area) will be pretty crowded at night on 31 December. We know, you might not be that ‘let’s party everywhere, even in the streets’ type of person but believe us, in Budapest it’s worth giving it a try – the atmosphere will be fantastic.

+1. New Year’s Festival at Vajdahunyad Castle

Say goodbye to 2018 by participating at a 3-day celebration with lots of drinks and food, on 29-31 December. Where? At the Vajdahunyad Castle, located in the City Park (Városliget) in Budapest. The main guest country of this New Year’s gastro festival is Russia and their national drink, vodka will be in the focus: you can taste 30 various types of this hard liquor. Of course you can try pálinka, if you prefer and also some traditional Hungarian New Year dishes, for ex. cabbage soup, roasted pork, lentils, etc. Of course there will be some music, programs for kids and a family masquerade ball, as well.

Our tip: it’s worth visiting on 29 December because on the first day, you can enjoy a 50% discount from the food prices. Don’t miss it!
