Budapest100 presents: in the footsteps of Bauhaus

The topic of this year’s event has been announced.

Budapest100 is one of our favorite programs every year: a two-day celebration of people and buildings around us. It started as the celebration of the 100-year-old buildings of the city and as of 2015 the focus turned towards the different parts of the city. The original purpose remains: to reveal buildings from basement to attic, get to know their inhabitants and form new communities. We can take part in special and guided tours, where the unknown secrets of Budapest are revealed, or we can just marvel the city around us. During these two days we can get in the closed corridors of private houses, get a sneak peek of beautiful staircases and participate in community programs. The motto of Budapest100 says it all: “Every building is interesting”.

This year’s topic is the German Bauhaus, one of the most significant art schools of the 20th century, that turns exactly 100 years old in 2019. The anniversary gives the perfect opportunity to meet the early modern architecture of Budapest from the 1920s to the 1940s. The name Bauhaus has formed into the denomination of a style, not only in Hungarian, but in other languages as well. A style, that reformed the concept of beauty, useful and good, with its clean surfaces and streamlined details. All the progressive architects of Budapest have tried to meet the new principles, therefore Budapest100 aims to celebrate the Bauhaus anniversary, to show its remarkable impact on the city.

The event will be held on 4-5 May, exact programs and locations are still under negotiation, but one thing is sure: we will be the. Will you?
