Due to maintenance works, Keleti Railway Station will be closed from 13 to 26 May.
‘Keleti’ is one of the biggest railway stations in Budapest. It is always crowded, dozens of trains are arriving and departing in every hour. Now the well-known rail terminus is getting some rest and renovation – let’s note that it’s high time for that.
So Keleti will be closed from 13 to 26 May. In this period, all departures and arrivals will be moved to the city’s other main train stations, Nyugati and Déli.
‘Over the course of a fortnight, all railway tracks will be repaired and platforms re-concreted. Overhead cables, the security system, energy network and lights will all be revamped. A new LED information board will be installed in the main hall while the old buffets and pavilions no longer in operation will be demolished. Benches and pictogram signs will be replaced with new ones. Damaged walls will be restored and green areas by the entrances will be planted with flowers. The renovation works will employ more than 100 people’ – We Love Budapest writes.
Keleti will be a much nicer place after the renovations, well, hopefully… and it has also some other advantages. For example, lower speed limits for trains won’t be necessary anymore, so the timetables can improve and we truly hope that there will be fewer technical malfunctions causing delays.
