Shine! - Fashion and Glamour Exhibition opened at Budapest History Museum
Posted by Budnews · Oct 21, 2019

It presents luxury clothing from the 18th to the 21st century.

Budapest History Museum has one of the most beautiful buildings of the city: the former Kiscelli castle in Óbuda. The ancient building creates unique atmosphere to every event, and it's more than perfect with this mesmerizing fashion exhibition.

The Fashion and glamour exhibition wrapped the concept of glamor and luxury in stark contrast to the gloomy temple interior. It presents luxury clothing from the 18th to the 21st century, most of which comes from the Kiscelli Museum's thousands of items of textiles. Eye-catching clothings fill the space, and the exhibition shows perfectly that since people wear clothing, its purpose has since been to attract attention, and to crave the crowd.

We can see afternoon casual outfits from the 1930s, lots of ball gowns from various styles (for example, a pink silk from 1888, metal beaded and glass beaded ball gowns), and a few iconic pieces from contemporary fashion as glittering accessories are in fashion again these days. Jimmy Choo sandals, Alexander McQuenn evening bag, and haute couture and other clothing by Hungarian contemporary designers (Abodi, Artista, Camou, Je suis belle, Dóra Konsánszky, Bori Tóth, Kata Szegedi, USE Unused).

Several valuable accessories have been exhibited from the Hungarian historical culture, such as jewelery belts, spurs, swords, ornamental Hungarian costumes. A special item of the exhibition is the crowning robe made of the barge of Queen Elizabeth's wedding dress. The dress was decorated with flat and convex embroidery, was donated to the church by Sisi's confidant, Ida Ferenczy, and the tricks and technique of making is still not completely known.

Don't miss: At the very end of the exhibition, you can try on some glittering and flashing pieces. ;)

Venue: Kiscell Museum, 1037 Budapest, Kiscelli u. 108.
