First smart pedestrian crossing completed in Budapest

The lights turn on when somebody is approaching the pedestrian crossing, so hopefully even more accidents can be avoided in the future.

There are a lot of ‘smart things’ that help our everyday lives and we can proudly announce that recently, the first smart pedestrian crossing in Budapest begun to operate, as well. It is located in the 14th district of the capital, Zugló, at the crossroad of Egressy Road and Kövér Lajos Street.

But in our opinion not the street names are the most important, but the fact that there are several schools and kindergartens in this area. The smart pedestrian crossing works in front of the Herman Ottó Primary School so it can help avoid more accidents in this area.

How does it work?

The pedestrian crossing works with a so-called SafeCross system. It means that its LED lamps automatically turn on when any kind of movement happens near them. There is a camera at each side of the pedestrian crossing that alert the LED lamps whenever someone walks into the area of the crossing’s sensors. Are there are also reflectors to enlighten the pedestrians there so the drivers can see them from a greater distance.

So this is the first smart pedestrian crossing in Zugló but hopefully there will be even more in the district and in our capital very soon. ;)
