Some of the refurbishment works began in 2019, some are already finished, and some will begin in 2020 on 50 major train stations.
We already know from previous articles (mainly from last summer) that some of the busiest Hungarian train stations are getting some refurbishment. This is essential, not only for locals and commuters but maybe for tourists and expats, too.
The reconstruction plans are ready for some stations at the countryside and near Budapest, like for example Zánkafürdő, Sárvár, Monor, Vecsés, Monor and the refurbishment also concerns some of the main railway stations of Budapest, like Zugló, Kőbánya-Kispest, and Kőbánya-alsó.
According to the plans, Kőbánya-Kispest station, where more than 3 million passengers wait for their trains every year, will be renovated by the first quarter of 2020. The works at Déli Railway Station start at the beginning of the year. The three major railway stations of the capital, Nyugati, Keleti and Déli will get modern LED screens just like two stations in the countryside, in Debrecen and in Szolnok.
In 2019, Keleti already got some renovation to make the station more modern and more comfortable for passengers. Miskolc, Kecskemét and Újszász in the countryside also got some refurbishment last year, and according to MÁV (Hungarian State Railways), the other stations will also be renovated until 2023.
