Now we have another beautiful place after Liberty Bridge to walk and have a picnic.
If you've been to Budapest during the summer in the past few years, you've probably run into the Szabihíd event. This is the event series when Liberty bridge is closed from car traffic and public transport, and only pedestrians can take possession of it. The initiative started four years ago, spontaneously, when the bridge was closed down due to refurbishing works during the whole summer. People of Budapest took possession of it soon: thousands of people had picnic, there were yoga classes, spontaneous concerts and art performances. Since then, people of Budapest get the bridge for 4 weekends and can enjoy the summer on this beautiful spot.
Now it seems that from this year we have another place to do so: the lower quay of Pest. The mayor of Budapest announced last week that the lower quay on the Pest side will also be closed from car traffic on some weekends of the summer, thus allowing people to walk directly along the Danube River, without the distracting traffic. The exact details, the dates and whether there will be any programs are unknown yet, but we are pretty sure that this will be a great summer.
