As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Euro 2020 will be postponed by 12 months – including of course the matches that were scheduled in Budapest.
On 17 March, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced that the national team competition, UEFA EURO 2020 will be postponed. The football matches were planned to happen in June and July this year, and several ones were scheduled to take place in Budapest.
Budapest’s newest stadium, Puskás Aréna was supposed to host four of the matches. ‘They included Group F matches on June 16, 20 and 24, and a Round of 16 match on June 28’ – bbj.hu writes.
In delaying Euro 2020, UEFA said it wanted to avoid ‘placing any unnecessary pressure on national public services’ of its 12 host countries, as well as helping allow domestic competitions to be finished – resumes BBC.com.
The tournament was due to take place from 12 June-12 July this summer, but it will run 12 months later, from 11 June to 11 July 2021.
