Budapest to get a new tramline
Posted by Mia Balogh · May 29, 2020

So far, this is the most important development in the capital’s transport infrastructure this year.

There are always some smaller or bigger renovation or construction works going concerning the public transport system of Budapest, but the latest project is the most important one in the capital’s transport infrastructure in 2020: Budapest will get a new tram line.

We Love Budapest writes that the construction works of a new tramline from Soroksári út in south Pest to Haller utca further north have already started on 23 May.

‘According to an announcement by Budapest transport company BKK, a new pair of tracks will be established between Haller utca and Soroksári út, and the existing southerly connection will also be renewed. As a result, passengers will be able to travel in a total of six directions at the Soroksári út junction’ – they write.

The new tram line can be quite useful also because it will mean an alternative access to the city centre without having to change at Nagyvárad Square. M3 metro line’s long-term renovation works are still going on so we suppose that a good alternative for the underground would be welcome by many travellers. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
