“Shot here” – new book presents Budapest as the location of film shootings
Posted by Mia Balogh · Dec 4, 2014

In their new book, “Shot here. Starring Budapest. International films”, Balázs Basa and Ádám Názer present the Hungarian capital as a multi-faceted city starring in more than 100 films.

Budapest is amazing. This is not new information for locals, or for tourists who have already visited the Hungarian capital. Several filmmakers and international stars have fallen in love with the city, too, so it is not a coincidence that we can see a lot of films shot here. The reason of the Hungarian capital’s popularity can be its geographical- or architectural diversity, but some people say that it’s much more: Budapest simply has something magical that fascinates the producers, movie directors, actors and other filmmakers, as well.

So it is not surprising that two Hungarian authors, Balázs Basa and Ádám Názer have felt that it’s time to present the city as the location of film shootings. So they wrote their book, “Shot here. Starring Budapest. International films” (Itt forgott. Főszerepben Budapest. Nemzetközi filmek), in which they tell stories in detail about more than a 100 occasion when Budapest could have been seen in films.

The authors even have some information and interesting stories about the international superstars, from Michael Jackson to Katy Perry, who have visited Budapest. For example, they mention what changes Eddie Murphy needed in the presidential suite in Hotel Kempinski during the works of I Spy, and they write the story of Madonna who didn’t want to leave her vehicle until the paparazzi located on the nearby terraces of the shooting of the super production Evita were not leaving.

In the book, we can read about films presented in cinemas between 1964 and 2015. The authors decided to create 6+1 categories for the productions shot in Budapest, so we can read about the top 10 places for shooting in Budapest; shooting locations in the downtown; film secrets from the Buda side of the city; about beaches, cafés, hotels; palaces of Budapest; extraordinary places and 21 locations that have to be in the book, but can’t be mentioned in the categories above.

The book published by Akadémiai Kiadó is said to be informative and perfect entertainment for everyone from the biggest film fanatics to those who started to watch international films recently.
