The huge wheel of Sziget Eye on Erzsébet Square has closed and gone away. It’ll possibly be back in the middle of the year.
The spinning gem of Budapest dominated the city and entertained locals and tourists from June and has now „closed its gates”. The giant was 65 metred high, had 41 cabins and could take 332 people at once. The ride took about 10-12 minutes to go round and the wheel went around 2-3 times. It was built by 15 people in 8 days and was placed in the heart of downtown Budapest.

The sparkling wheel had more than 350 thousand visitors, and, though tickets were not particularly cheap, 1-2 thousand guests hopped on a day, even during winter months. No wonder the attraction was so popular; Budapest is awesome from a higher perspective, too. From the top, visitors could see Deák Ferenc Square, Andrássy Avenue or Király Street, even the Danube and Buda Hills. The wheel was hired until now, but, due to the great success, the possibility of buying one has also come up. One thing is sure: Sziget Eye will be back. Exactly when and for how long, that’s still a question.
