Buda Castle is naturally one of the most popular sights of the capital. And there’s a special event that makes it even more attractive: the Changing of the Guards.
From spring till autumn, visitors can witness something special in Buda Castle. Although ours is less well-known and spectacular than the English one, but it’s worth seeing; the Changing of the Guards takes place in front of the Hungarian Presidential Palace called Sándor Palace (Alexander Palace), located by the Funicular in the Buda Castle district.

You can watch it every hour from Monday to Sunday, but we would suggest the special Saturdays. Once a month, usually on the last Saturday, at noon, the Changing of the Guards is accompanied by music; it is a joint performance of the Hungarian Defence Forces ‘Vitéz Sándor Szurmay’ and the Budapest Corpse of Drums. In addition, the ceremony is even more spectacular when prominent guests are visiting the Hungarian President. This military tradition has been revived only a few years ago, in 2003, when the president moved to the Sándor Palace in Buda Castle.
