According to Skytrax’s passenger satisfaction surveys, Budapest Airport won first prize in its region in the Passenger Terminal EXPO 2014.

What does this mean exactly? It means that across 39 key performance indicators for airport service and product - from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration, through to departure at the gate -, passengers of Budapest Airport are the most satisfied ones in Eastern Europe. The World Airport Awards are the most prestigious accolades for the airport industry, and winning first prize means that after the last few years’ changes, Budapest Airport is heading to the right direction.

The Passenger Terminal EXPO took place in Barcelona this year, and the CEO of Budapest Airport Jost Lammers is very proud of this success:

“This is one of the most prestigious professional recognitions in international air transport, since the award can be deserved only by highest quality service and excellent performance. I believe this award primarily recognizes our commitment to develope in all areas continuosly, and that we strive to offer the highest attainable standard of service to our passengers. This prize is the acknowledgment, that we succeeded in developing Budapest to become the best airport in the region – it also reflects the continuing and devoted work of our airport staff as well.”

The survey and awards process is completely independent and guaranteed to be free of any airport influence or interference in final results. The World Airport Awards are based on over 12 million customer nominations across 110 nationalities of air travellers, and included 410 airports worldwide.

Budapest had scored in the best three during the last four years, so it’s not a big surprise, that after 2013’s results it managed to win. Yet, only after two years of losing it’s base-airline, it’s definitely a sign of revival.
