Pest quay may become promenade in three years

We can hardly believe, but can’t wait: it will be wonderful!

It has been repeatedly mentioned, and also we have written about it, that the city administration might close a part of the riverbank from vehicle traffic. And the topic is now actual again, because Parisians did it! One bank of the Seine will be completely closed to car traffic, returning that area to the city dwellers. The French capital's mayor, Anne Hidalgo said „the Parisians thus reconquered the Seine.”

This can be a good example for us, but it is true that it’s not easy to implement similar ideas in our capital. Despite the fact that there is a huge demand for something similar: just think about how people took possession of Chain Bridge in the summer when it was closed to traffic. Last year there was a design contest about the quay, but since then we haven’t heard anything about it. The winner Korzó Design Studio would divide the embankment into three sections: the upper section (between the Chain Bridge and Kossuth Square) would be a park; in the central region (between the Chain Bridge and Elizabeth Bridge) they would expand the opportunities of pedestrians. On the lower stretch of the Belgrade quay they’d try to do favor for both motorists and pedestrians. So long story short: Danube embankment would be a much more livable and lovable place.

One of the biggest online news sites asked the Local Government about the Danube embankment project some days ago, and the answer was quite surprising:

"We signed the contract with the winner Korzó Design Studio in September. After the authorization of the plans, we have to draw up the construction plans and select the contractors. Thus, the actual work may begin no earlier than 2018, the duration is expected to be one and a half years”- they say.
