Budapest Summer Festival is the biggest cultural event in the country. Latest plays, world famous artists and unforgettable summer nights characterize the biggest open-air stages for more than 3 months.

Budapest is Mecca for culture fans in every summer. This year more stars and super-productions debut at the Budapest Summer Festival in June, July and August than ever, even if previous years were strong success as well. The festival offers more than a hundred programs and it’s the major tourist attraction with high-quality cultural content in the country for more than 10 years.

Budapest Summer Festival 2016 offers super-productions - theater, opera and musical performances, dance performances, spectacular shows, children's theater, jazz, world music, classical music and crossover concerts - a huge variety of genres for the entire family. The open-air stages at Városmajor and Margaret Island have beautiful natural surroundings, rich program offers and amenities attract more than 800.000 visitors each year.

The festival of 2016 enriches the capital's cultural offerings with new premieres, spectacular performances, one-time events and unique content. 2016 will be the year of romance on the Budapest Summer Festival. Next to the most famous Hungarian artists - Andrea Rost, Erika Miklósa, Zoltán Kocsis, Tamas Vásáry, Gergely Madaras, Domonkos Héjja – such international stars come on the stage of Margaret Island Open Air Theatre as James Valenti, Yuja Wang, Marc Heller, Sébastien Guez, Giuseppe Filianoti, Stacey Kent, London's Globe Theatre and the Monte Carlo Ballet.

The event series start with the ordinary opening concert of the National Symphony Orchestra, then fans of classical music may rejoice: two Verdi opera premieres and an opera gala follow: La Traviata and Otello. Musical fans can’t wait the world-class Webber musical, Evita. In connection with the 2016 Shakespeare Jubilee, Shakespeare's Globe Theater visits us again, this time with The Two Gentlemen of Verona. The author’s most beautiful love story, Romeo and Juliet comes to life in the performance of Monte Carlo Ballet, the stronghold of European classical ballet. For the jazz and pop music lovers we recommend Stacey Kent who returns to Budapest with orchestral line-up.

Of course, this is just a small slice of the next 3 months, for the full program visit eng.szabadter.hu/
