Ice Cream Day

8 May is Ice Cream Day! New flavours, old classics, lactose- or sugar free ice creams – whatever you like, just pick your favourite tastes for a 50 percent discount and enjoy.

When I first read about Ice Cream Day, I was wondering why 8 May is the date. Later I realized (or read somewhere else, can’t remember) that May is the fifth month, and so – after the Latin number V – it represents the cone, and the number 8 refers to two scoops of ice cream. I really like the funny logic and the creativity in it, but love ice cream even more.

So I am always happy about getting 50 percent discount on 8 May in several ice cream parlours nation-wide, where artisan ice creams are sold. However, organizers don’t just attract visitors for the sole reason of promoting these ice cream parlours, confectioneries and artisan ice creams; they have also joined forces to raise some help and bring support to several major public institutions, for example for some hospitals.

If you are in the downtown of Budapest, we suggest you to try for example Hisztéria (WestEnd City Center), Dolce Fantasia Gelateria Italiana (82 Szondi Street and 61 Andrássy Road) or any of the Vanilin confectioneries in the 13th district.

See you again in summer, at the Night of Ice Cream on 14 August!
