There are a lot of ongoing and future renovation and transformation, so the city will look quite different is some years.

2018 will be an excellent year for Budapest. Huge investments will be launched, public spaces, parks, monumental buildings will be renewed, office buildings, sports complexes and residential parks will be raised from the ground. It’s almost impossible to list everything, but these are the most important changes of the city.

City park

The landscape transformation of the City Park has also started. The architecture office renovates and makes the Garden of Blinds more secure, recreate the sports fields with a 200-meter running circuit, and a special playground for dogs.

Museums

The refurbished Museum of Fine Arts opens again to the public in 2018, and the construction of the new National Gallery in the City park will start in April, based on the plans of the Japanese architect office, SANAA. The new National Museum Restoration and Storage Center is also being ready this year. The buildings include the Central European Art History Research Institute, which houses the experts of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Gallery, as well as a visitor center. The construction works of the Pannon Park, Biodome and the Ethnographic Museum, and the restoration work of the Olof Palme House are also being implemented this year. The Transport Museum, on the other hand, does not move back to the City park, but moves to the Northern Vehicle Repair Area instead.

The Danube shores

Creating a city living with the Danube is a key element of the long-term development concept called Budapest 2030. The city administration plans to renew the shores based on a unified concept. A new Danube bridge is also going to be built on the southern border of the city.

Millenáris Széllkapu

At the end of 2018, a brand new 2.5 acre big park will mend the air of Budapest. Millenáris Széllkapu, an extension of the already existing Millenáris park will be ready this year and it will be beautiful. With its unique green plant wall, its indigenous but stress-tolerant vegetation and its large water surface, it allows the fresh Danube winds to pass.

Baths

The capital's baths will continue to renew. The unique iodine salt bath of Pestrezsébet will be renovated after more than a decade of neglect, and the preparation of the expansion and renovation of Király Bath is also being started. The expansion and transformation of the Csillaghegy Beach Bath is also a great effort. 7,000 square meters of indoor baths will be built, so a new bathing facility will be opened in Budapest with a total of 11 swimming pools.
