‘Budapest has ridden the wave of the trends favourable trends for central-eastern European countries. The foreign tourists night’s growth rate in our capital is quite impressive: from 2014 to 2018, Budapest has achieved a 27.2% growth. So the tourists’ interest for Budapest has overtaken their interest for Helsinki, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Prague, for example’ – MagyarNemzet.hu writes.
Thanks to this dynamical growth, Hungary has been listed among the top 40 countries in Europe. But the most significant achievement was the average annual growth rate of foreign tourist nights, which was surmounted only by five other European cities – Milan, Amsterdam, Madrid, Lisbon and Munich.
Last year, with 9,044 million foreign guest nights, Budapest was ranked 11th on the list, overtaking Lisbon, Munich, Milan, Venice, Florence, Copenhagen and Brussels. By considering total guest nights, Budapest finished 16th, leaving behind Warsaw, Bratislava and Zagreb.
