From Budapest to the Adriatic Sea: this is the best way
Posted by Budnews · Jan 13, 2020

This opportunity makes it really easy to spend a long weekend on the Croatian coast.

Are you planning to spend your holiday here in Hungary, but don't want to give up the sea? We know a good solution. MÁV, the Hungarian State Railways has some special routes during the summer: SEA*YOU Intercity trains let you get from Budapest to the Adriatic Sea overnight without a change or having to rent a car. Sounds great? We agree.

MÁV will launch its Adriatic routes again in 2020, which will bring us to 4 beautiful holiday towns. There will be two daily departures and they are very simple to use: you get on the IC in Budapest at 7 or 9 o'clock in the evening and arrive at your destination at 9 o'clock in the morning. This means that you do not have to pay an extra 1 night stay at a hotel, and you don't waste a day with traveling.

Basic ticket prices are much better than any beachfront accommodation: tickets for one trip are 39 euro/ each, (49 euros for a return trip), plus 3 euros extra for the fix seat, but if you want more comfort, you can choose a sleeping car or even a private sleeping car with a private washbasin. And in the morning you can wake up to the sight of the sea in these cities:

Koper

Koper is one of Slovenia's most popular holiday towns, which has a real Mediterranean feeling. The biggest city of Istria has never disappointed us and can be an ideal destination for a weekend getaway with the Istria Express.

Opatija

Opatija is one of the most popular resorts in Slovenia due to its beautiful parks, Lungomare, and crystal clear beaches. Istria Express also takes you to the this beautiful Croatian town in a night.

Rijeka

If you prefer to sunbathe on the Croatian coast, the charming port city of Rijeka may be the perfect destination. The bustling old town, the promenade and the beaches are a great experience at all times. Rijeka is also available with Istria Express.

Split

Croatia's second largest city is worth a visit as well: Split has many attractions beyond the coast. The city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Roman monuments are also worth visiting. Adria Express takes you here and tickets are available from 32 Euros.

More information about the trains and ticket sales starts in spring.
