No, we're not talking about the movie.
American pie is one of the most American thing one can think of, yet Budapest didn't have it's own place until a few weeks ago. Fortunately „sPIEcy Pie Boutiqe” is now open, so we don't have to fly across the ocean for a good pie.
The boutique is full with delicacies: the old-style storefront is filled with pies of various sizes. Some have ruby-red strawberries peeking out, others deep blue cranberries on top, but all of it looks like a miracle. The pies are available in two sizes, a “mini” pies cost 990 HUF, the larger ones are 1500 HUF, regardless of the filling.
The pasta is made locally, fresh, and in general, sweet pies dominate the showcase, but there are always two to three savory ones if one goes for more than just a dessert. Interestingly, sweet pies are either not covered or have a nice grid, while the savory ones have a full pastry hat. It's really hard to choose from the raspberry, mango - cream cheese, rum-cherry, salted peanut – nutella, pumpkin and the classic apple version, and it doesn't make the situation easier, that they have bean - pork knuckle, chili bean, and potatoes casserole version.
