Reconstruction of metro line 3 continues

Despite of the coronavirus pandemic, the reconstruction works of the blue metro line in Budapest did not stop.

As we have already reported, the reconstruction works of two metro stations on metro line 3, Arany János Street and Ferenciek tere have begun. Check out article about this here: http://budnews.hu/news/News/1601/two-metro-stations-closed-in-budapest-city-centre

According to webradio.hu, demolition work is currently being done in the middle section of this metro line, the so-called blue line, and it is not affected by the current coronavirus pandemic.

On the contrary, the decreasing number of passengers on public transport due to coronavirus actually benefit the construction because conditions for work are more ideal – some works are proceeding faster than expected. According to BKV’s plans, testing processes can begin in the summer.

And if everything will continue as scheduled, the reconstruction of the middle section of the blue metro line will proceed in July: the next step is closing the Corvin-quarter and Semmelweis Clinics metro stations, according to plans.

Népszava has reported that the handover of the section from Népliget to Kőbánya-Kispest is scheduled for fall 2020. And the reconstruction of the whole blue line is hoped to be finished by the end of 2022.
