Car traffic will be banned from the entire City Park and Heroes’ Square.
According to one of the latest government decisions, the popular City Park and the Heroes’s Square will be totally car-free in the future, the promenade will be used only by pedestrians and cyclists.
24.hu writes that cars will be banned from the Koós Károly sétány in the park, and also Állatkerti körút (Zoo Boulevard), outside of peak hours. Traffic restrictions do not affect trolleybuses, of course.
Furthermore, the iconic tourist attraction Heroes’ Square will be completely car-free. Parking our cars on the surface will be prohibited in City Park except for a short section of the Zoo Boulevard. Instead of that, a new underground garage will be built on Dózsa György Road, we can leave the car there and walk to City Park.
A new P+R parking lot will be built, as well, suitable for 1500 cars, this will be located possibly on the outer Hungária körút, east of the park. A new road and tram overpass will be also designed, to connect districts 13 and 14. This will possibly help the cars coming off the M3 motorway to avoid the area of the City Park.
