Our 5 favourite ice rinks
Posted by Budnews · Jan 3, 2017

These are the best ice rinks in Budapest.

If it’s winter, it’ skating and skiing, and while skiing needs a lot of stuff (mountains, for example) skating is simple even in a big city. There are many ice rinks in Budapest: smaller and bigger, free and for charge, for children and for adults. These are our favourite places, which didn’t cause disappointment until now.

City Park Ice Rink

The city's most popular and largest skating rink is open all winter long. They have all services you need: 2 skate sharpening workshops in the area of the sports facility, skates rental from size 26 to size 50, and they have bought 600 new skates this year, so you have good chance to get (almost) brand-new skates. The rink is huge and the city park gives romantic scenery to it.

Opening hours: 10:00–14:00, 17:00–21:00

Prices: HUF 1,500-2,500

Ice Rink @ Bálna Budapest

This ice rink before Bálna Budapest is city's largest (450 square meter) free ice-skating rink. And obviously it has the most beautiful panorama as well: as it’s situated on the Danube-shore, we can admire the river and Buda side with Gellért hill and the Castle.

Opening hours: 10:00–14.00, 15.00-22.00 (weekend: 24:00)

Prices: free

Ice rink @ Óbuda (1033 Budapest, Fő tér)

This one is our ultimate favourite: although the rink is small, but it has beautiful and charming environment, floodlight, family atmosphere and a Christmas tree in the middle of the rink. Because of its size, this place is rather for children, but everything is free here, even skating lessons!

Opening hours: 08:00–22.00

Prices: free

Jégkert

Jégkert is near to Mammut shopping mall and its biggest advantage is the long opening: they will operate until April, so with a bit of luck, we can skate in spring sunshine in some month. They have several ice skating and hockey courses, so before you go, check their „timetable” to see whether the rink is reserved for a special purpose or not. Oh, and they organize night skating and mulled wine parties every Saturday evening!

Opening hours: Every day 7.00-24.00

Prices: HUF 1,400, rental: 1,100

Aréna Jégterasz

We also recommend a classic shopping mall rink: the one at the top of Arena Plaza. If you don’t mind the shopping centre feeling, it’s perfect. If you mind, we reveal one more thing: the special program of the rink is Ice Disco every Friday and Saturday night! Ice Terrace DJs provide good music and unique atmosphere after 6 pm.

Opening hours: 09.00-14-00, 15.00-21.00

Prices: HUF 1,300/1,600 weekdays/weekend
