We’ve recently written about the available theatre shows for English-speakers in Budapest. Now we have even more good news: Contemporary Drama Festival between 28 November and 8 December in Budapest offers the most exciting and innovative Hungarian theatre performances, all subtitled in English.
The international contemporary text-based theatre festival was first organized in 1997 and since then it has been the only event in Hungary that exclusively deals with the introduction of new Hungarian and foreign dramatic works. It’s not only important for the national but for the whole European drama writing and theatre too.

On one hand, it provides a possibility to watch fine quality performances based on dramatic texts from several European countries. On the other hand, it creates a continuous relationship between the European theatre experts and enables the international exchange of ideas and experiences.

Contemporary Drama Festival offers a selection of the most outstanding theatre performances of the last and the new season; in the Showcase Programme, you can see performances created by young directors of the new generation. This year, the current social and political situation in Hungary seems to be in focus; in some way or another, it is present in all the performances.
