Olimpia Park

I reckon you've already noticed that there's a brand new shiny green spot in inner downtown Budapest between the east end of Margit Bridge and the old Biarritz Building. Could be a public park but it's a little more than that.

It's a place full of fresh young parents with thier kids chasing around each other, business men with undone ties sitting on the lawn and talking on their smart phone about another succesful contract, or young couples taking the usual selfies next to old couples enjoying the sunshine from a comfortable wooden bench – this is Olimpia Park.

Well, if you are a happy parent of one or more untiring little angels (or devils) those who want more playing hours after kindergarten then this is a place for you. Your little ones can have fun in a safe environment on useful playing devices like the jungle gym while you can read your favourite book in the shades.

If you are a businessman after signing a brand new contract or closing a succesful deal in one of the elegant Balassi street lawyer's offices, after shaking a lot of hands spend some time on yourself! Grab your briefcase, get down to the street from the top floor office and a have a nice cup of double coffee in the good old Szalay Sweetshop. Yes, the classic place which still has a public phone inside. After that, put your sunglasses on, go to the park and sit down cosily on the lawn – don't worry about your suit, the grass won't leave any marks. Mute your cellphone, read a magazine or the daily newspaper, and relax for a few minutes. But don't be late from the afternoon meeting, maybe your partners are already waiting for you in Biarritz Restaurant!

Or if you are one of those young people just moved to the city or on vacation, grab your girlfriend's/boyfriend's or pal's hand, take a nice little walk around the park and take your inevitable selfies in front of the olympic symbol!

Olimpia Park was included in the project of renovating Kossuth Square (Kossuth tér) and it's open for public every day.

It has separate places for the olympic monuments, parade with benches, playground for kids, a ground for soccer and basketball, detached ponce for dogs and a huge part with beautiful soft lawn where you can sit down and have a great picnic – it's more than a park!

You can easily get to Olimpia Park on Széchenyi Wharf (Széchenyi rakpart) or through Balassi Bálint Street (Balassi Bálint utca) from the east end of Margit Bridge.
