You would never guess what it is or where it is.
Our favorite contemporary sculptor is undoubtedly Mihály Kolodko. Kolodko is a Transcarpathian sculptor or better to say guerrilla sculptor, because his works are often published in public spaces without permission. Most of his sculptures are located in Uzhhorod (Ungvár), but after he moved to Hungary in 2017, his works (mainly the popular mini-sculptures) have started to appear in the city.
This was exactly the same thing a few days ago when a statue of Mr. Bean's teddy bear appeared on the former British Embassy building. Of course, the mini-statue was again the work of Mihály Kolodko, and the photograph of the statue also appeared on the artist's community page. In the past few days, this small bear became a must see in the Budapest, just as Kolodko’s other works.
His first statue in Budapest was the miniature statue of Főkukac, known from a Hungarian cartoon. The 15 cm statue is located opposite the Parliament on Halász Street. Kolodko enjoys depicting television cartoon or puppet figures in his works, he has already formed, among others, Mekk Mester and Süsü the Dragon (who are also well-known characters of Hungarian cartoon series), Lisa Simpson or Kermit the Frog from the Muppet show.
We are curious: have you seen any of his artworks in Budapest? Or do you plan to try to find them next time?
