Autumn is getting closer day by day. Unfortunately, it means that Budapest Summer Festival is close to an end, too. However, the final event is yet to happen and is very promising.
The three-month festival held at different locations on Margaret Island and in Városmajor has been one of the most significant cultural events in Budapest and has always featured a variety of programs. Visitors couldn’t have been disappointed this year, either; they could select from a wide range of concerts, theatrical performances, dance shows and many more, some in Hungarian, some in English. And though Budapest Summer Festival is soon over, that only gives us another reason to see the final concert.
From 8 pm on the last day of the Festival, 7 September, Városmajor will be filled with swing music, but the evening is not only for lovers of the genre. Hungarian singer Gabi Szűcs will perform the songs of the legendary Amy Winehouse on the Open-air Stage, with a little twist, though: the popular melodies of the soul singer-songwriter who died at a young age will be translated into swing this time.

The famous Cotton Club Singers, Orsi Kozma, Boldizsár László, Gábor Fehérwill appear as guest stars at the evening and, for the first time after 5 years, will perform together again, joining the celebration of swing music and the melodies of Amy Winehouse. Gabi Szűcs used to be one of them, is among the founders of the band. She’s much loved by swing fans and is a permanent guest at the local and international festivals, now as a soloist, too. Swinging Amy, her debut solo album and, it seems, the inspiration for the concert, was released at the end of last year. Just like the concert, it features the most popular Amy Winehouse songs, performed in the genre of swing and been given a whole new meaning.
