A small autumn sugar shock

Now that I had to take long trousers and its companions because of the colder weather, some strange and unpleasant surprises hit me. Somehow… these clothes were fitting on me like this last year? To be perfectly honest: the skinny jeans somehow seemed not so skinny back then. And maybe the button wasn’t so squashed into my belly. I’m quite sure that I haven’t grown even a millimeter at age 27, so I had a terrible suspicion.

1 or 2 kilos (Well okay, 3. Really!) is not the world. I saw on the bathroom scales that it may raise VAT lately, but as I haven’t noticed any further changes, I didn’t feel particularly excited. Then a few days ago, in the embarrassing moments of self-confrontation I started to think, and some divine memories came up… cookies, mousses, ice-cream, chocolate.

We went, for example, to eat rectangular donuts. Yes, there is a place in Budapest, where they told off with the classic circular donuts: The box donut. The rectangular donuts themselves are real artworks (which is the reason we went in), but they also surpass most of the traditional donuts in fineness. Mostly because there is no oily/greasy feeling afterwards. As I have learned since then, it is possible because the donuts are baked in peanut oil, which is healthier and also more characteristic than the conventional oil. So we can enjoy the filling, the glaze and even the candied fruit. We managed to test 4 kinds (halves, I haven’t devoured whole four donuts!): a lemon cream, white chocolate, candied lemon zest donut, one with dark chocolate cream and candied orange peel, a half chocolate - half vanilla cream filled and a cinnamon plum cream filled. And the result is that there is no result: it’s impossible to make order, because they are all super delicious.

The other possible reason of my weight gain is that I'm a huge believer of waffles since my stay in Brussels, and a few weeks ago I found a cool downtown place, Go-free. And this waffle place sells not that classic kind of waffle. If someone has visited Belgium and tasted that waffle there, they know what I mean. All the more so, in Go-free they put sugar beads on the pasta before baking: the sweet taste infuses the material everywhere, so it became crispy on the outside because of the caramelized sugar and soft in the inside because of butter (and of course sugar). The result is very thick, buttery, sweet dough, the peak of hedonism, and it still doesn’t have the topping on. This is all good, but one more thing: salty Waffles! They sell salty waffles that are practically waffle based sandwiches! There is a smoked salamon, chivecream cheese, lemon combination; a Prague ham, ruccola, pesto one; and a Prague ham or smoked salamon, cream cheese, ruccola, cherry tomatoes sandwich. I bought a smoked salmon-cream cheese sandwich with a Pineapple-Banana-Kivi Waffles. The sandwich was…. really strange. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad, indeed, I just never met a sandwich waffles earlier. But when you managed to get over this fact, you get a decent, tasty sandwich wherein the pasta perfectly complements the toppings. The dessert, the pineapple-dream was soooo good, than I expected. Sweet dough, fresh tasty fruits, lots of cream and sugar. I think I will come back here too.

Update: I bought a new pair of pants since then, in size S (European 36), so maybe truly the cut lines are changing. And this is great news because they say Jégbüfé is open again...
